News & Notes from Throughout the Scene (for spring)...
Dunkelheit to Move Its Location (www.MySpace.com/DunkelheitDC):
Featuring Dark Euro EBM & an intimate atmosphere to mix & mingle, Dunkelheit is held the first Friday of each month. Phoebe informs us that her current location has abruptly gone out of business so she's unexpectedly searching for a new venue. If anyone has a good lead for a Friday night club then please contact us. In the meantime, efforts are being made & they're on the hunt for a new & better host.
Palace of Wonders (www.PalaceofWonders.com):
Word has it that Palace of Wonders will be closing for Renovations.
They own both the Palace as well as Red & Black next door. It's the
owner's intention to merge the two clubs into one unified venue. This
will provide more space & a better venue for live shows, but we
wonder what the decor & atmosphere will be like. In any event,
they'll be shut down for a fair time while the retrofit takes place.
This Labor Day Weekend Brings the TNG Primal Arts Festival (www.TNGCamp.com): Can't make it to DragonCon, Burning Man, Triton Festival, or Montreal Fetish Weekend? Then DC TNG has joined forces w/ TNG Baltimore & Sacred Mark to host the first national Primal Arts Festival for the TNG Community. Held at the ever popular Ramblewood campground in Darlington, MD, festivities include: TNG Culture & Community focused classes & workshops, BDSM, Kink, Sacred Sexuality, Sex Skills, Relationships, all in addition to...DJs, Special events, Live music, Burners, Body Modification, & more! Weekend Cost is $200 ($175 if TNG member). We'll see you there!
Marquis America is Now Von Gutenberg Magazine (www.vongutenberg.com/shop): The Metro Underground is proud to have been a part of the inaugural issue for such an important publication in the scene. Von Gutenberg offers a broad spectrum of possibility to the Fetish Scene. With an international reach & quality network it's a valuable resource for all who are interested in the alternative desires of life.
Silk & Skin Parties Moves to a New Venue (www.SilkAndSkin.com): Hosted by the ever wicked "Wild Thing," Silk & Skin parties represent a unique concept for the scene. In operation since 2004, on site play parties are formatted to nude men while women wear lingerie. After taking a brief hiatus they have since returned to a monthly schedule but have moved to newer & better digs.
DC Starz & Rites of Bacchus have merged into the "Crucible Lifestyle" (cruciblelifestyle.com): In a continuing effort to carry the scene under the Crucible flag, Fraizer purchased all rights to both DC Starz & Rites of Bacchus sometime ago. He's now merged both into one organization called "Crucible Lifestyle" & has folded all events into one monthly night. Affairs will thus be hosted at The Crucible, to which the group's mainstay will remain the first Saturday of each month (basically replacing the Starz monthly social).
Southwest VA Socials (www.SouthwestVa.Socials.com): Monthly socials held in a relaxed, intimate, nightclub setting. DJs are professional; all alcohol is BYOB w/ mixers provided & full service bartenders readily available. - Website is currently down, so we need to confirm if their organization is still active or if they have been disbanded.
'Having Parties' has Changed Their Name & Website to Open Minded Events (OpenMindedEvents.Blogspot.com): Apparently, a bot took over their website & started spamming millions. As a result, the site was consequently shut down. But taking things in stride, the promoters seized this as an opportunity & decided to update their whole identity. As a result, "Having Parties" is now Open Minded Events. They are the only group we know of that sponsors bisexual & bi-curious male, female, & trans group parties in the area. Additionally, they host all male play parties in Dupont. See website or listing under 'groups' for more information.
| It Seems Midnight has Trouble w/ Furries (www.DCMidnight.com): As if the DC Goth Scene didn't having enough trouble w/ the closing of so many new nights, Saturday's longest running Alternative Dance Club has become a favored hang out for the furry crowd. What's a furry? People who dress up in costume & channel their inner animal spirit (think mascot costumes & see pic). Regardless of your orientation or sense of understanding (we'll leave that for Facebook), such a trend has caused a major rift with its base supporters in the Gothic community. As such, the club is now in a major state of flux. Not sure how or if this will resolve itself so stay tuned! Pic courtesy of Maryland Furs. | ![]() |

| KINK Enters Its Second Year (www.kinktheplayparty.com):
It began as one woman's dream to offer a series of special parties
specifically for women & the transgender community - a concept
fairly unique in DC. Now it's grown into a group which is building in
numbers & offering 2 distinct parties: one for women & the TS
Community, the other for men. Each is held at a dedicated space in DC.
Self-described as down-to-earth & welcoming, they offer a great
venue for those
who identify as kinky, kink-curious, leather-dykes, leather-bois, &
all levels of gender identity with leather desire. We offer congrats
& wish them well in their second year! | ![]() |
