About Us

The Metro Underground went live in early 2009 & quickly gained a strong following with very high exposure. Ever since, we've been working hard to keep you in the loop & fully informed.  Indeed, we've moved well beyond the main site to offer a second dimension in our efforts through Facebook, Twitter, & FetLife. Our newsletter can also be found on Live Journal.

In addition, we host a number of events large & small, public & private throughout the year. This includes our main fundraiser, the DC Fetish Ball  (held each October over Columbus Day Weekend). Please see DCFetishBall.com or Metro Events for what's in the works.

Keep in mind that the
landscape of the scene is continually changing, so our Calendars, News & Notes, Clubs & Groups, Resources & Culture will all be in a constant state of transition. To which, if you know of anything that needs to be updated or added then please be in touch!

Just note that
we don't promote basic sites for porn, pay for sex, content of low caliber,
anything that would be seen as spam, or venues outside the Mid-Atlantic region (except for major conventions or events of a prominent nature)

You may also notice we don't offer flashy banners.
We've decided to take a more 'Google' approach, & will thus provide content in a manner that's simple, clear, & informative.  But we do appreciate cross-promotions so if you have such an availability then we'd love to hear from you.

So stay tuned, things are getting good & there's much more to come...

About Rick:  a Brief Bio…

As a professional working in marketing & promotions, my reentry into the underground scene came as the DC promoter for a number of events in the area. This came after a long hiatus, but you could say I was literally born into the scene...

My father (a Harvard MBA) was the comptroller & CFO of the nation's largest distributor for adult materials. Growing
up, such aspects were never in our house but its influence was definitely in my life. In fact, my first girlfriend & I went from losing our virginity to chains & vibrators in 30-days flat.  By the time I left college, I had already been in my first polyamorous relationship, & a short time later I founded a small group for couples & another for those in to BDSM.
I even ran a small mail order company for erotic materials - my first entrepreneurial endeavor!

Around this same time I was tending bar downtown & heard of a new club-night around the corner. I walked through the doors of Back Alley & immediately realized there was something about the scene that was a part of me. It was the beginning of Goth, & it was one part of an underground culture that was clearly a part of who & what I am. Indeed, the full spectrum of the alternative subculture has been in my blood since I can remember.

Life, love, & an ex-fiancé took me away for a while. But now I'm back & I'm here to stay.

I see SO much talent in the scene. I also see the people & interest for all that we have to offer. Indeed, the psychology of our region lends itself to such pursuits. But what seemed to be lacking was a cohesive means of communication & mainstream promotion. So I gave it some thought & had an idea.  That concept was soon given birth as The Metro Underground

About The Metro:

Our concept is unique, but our mission is simple:

To serve as a fundamental gateway to the full spectrum of the alternative subculture for DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Richmond, & the  Mid-Atlantic Region. Through effective Promotions & PR we can thus provide a more synergistic forum that will help lift the fog for
what's going on in & around the area, assist in the promotion of the scene as a whole, & ultimately provide a means for bridges to be built - from one culture to another, & from one group to the next.

In that pursuit, please understand that nothing about this is hap-hazard. We've given tremendous consideration to what we've assembled. The various cultures we represent each stand independently onto themselves, but each also shares a strong degree of crossover from one aspect of the scene to another. Taken as a whole, you find the full spectrum of The Metro Underground.

A Few of the Services We Offer:

In essence, The Metro is a loosely knit group of people who are coming together to help build for a better future. But as individuals, we're also able to provide a few core services to those in need (& such services are available in both a mainstream as well as an alternative capacity)…

Private Party Staffing:  Our networks include the services of The Private Pro's - offering the very best in Bartending, Food Service, & Private Party Assistance (available for literally any venue & 'every' type of party throughout Maryland, N.Virginia, & DC Metro Area).

Marketing & Promotions:  As a self-employed professional, I essentially work as a freelance writer with a direct focus in Marketing, PR, & Professional Branding. I've also launched "Small Business Services" - a packaged product to provide small to mid-sized companies with basically everything they need to effectively compete in their chosen market.

I'm more than willing to sit down & offer an initial consultation on effective marketing & proper branding. This would include an open dialogue to clarify & explore your core message, market position, as well as elements to define & develop its direction & identity.  Beyond this, any further efforts would then become a paid service.
